Over one year has passed since the start of the pandemic and finally COVID restrictions are easing around the world.

With novel chances to eat in restaurants (albeit outside), see your friends (even if just one at a time) and workout at the gym (if that’s your vibe), you’re likely to be very excited — perhaps slightly stressed or anxious too.

Research finds that 55% of Gen Z and Millennials will head straight to restaurants as soon as they open, 35% to the gym and almost 1/4 are keen to get back to festivals and large events like Coachella.

In this article we share three things to bear in mind when adapting to the new normal. But at the end of the day, whatever your plans may be, make sure you feel comfortable and happy.

1. Be yourself

After months of not seeing people, it’s normal to feel uneasy about social interaction, however, almost 2/3 of Britons want to lose weight before UK lockdown is due to end on June the 21st.

Staying positive and avoiding self-shame and pressure is a must. Socialising should be fun, not stress-inducing.

Lockdown has impacted us in many ways and it would be no surprise to have put on weight. 71 million Americans have.

However, instead of worrying, the best thing to do is be yourself and show up as you are. Your friends won’t care how you look when they’re enjoying your company so much.

If you really do want to lose weight, perhaps to increase mood or to adopt a healthier lifestyle, there are some small and easy changes you could make.

  • Keep active in your day-to-day life
  • Walk instead of drive.
  • Have a stretch after a long WFH day
  • Take the stairs instead of the lift
  • Maintain a healthy diet and
  • Put together a sustainable exercise routine with achievable goals

2. Update your summer wardrobe with secondhand clothes

If you’re looking to treat yourself to some new clothes, buy secondhand. With summer on the horizon, you might want to swap over those jumpers for lighter items.

This summer we’re looking at monochrome, bralettes and cut-outs. Check out Vogue for 12 trends to look out for next season.

3. Wear your best secondhand finds

Welcome your new social life with your top bargains and favourite secondhand pieces. Do you have clothes from last year that haven’t had a chance to be worn? Dig them up from the bottom of your closet and let them see some sunlight!

There’s nothing better than feeling good in your outfit 🔥 Not to mention knowing someone else had also valued it before you.

In case you need reminding, here are some perks of secondhand shopping:

  • You will stumble across unique items
  • It’s cheaper than high street shopping
  • It reduces your environmental impact and keeps clothes away from landfill
  • It doesn’t promote the exploitation of garment workers and instead promotes sustainable fashion

Time to get back to reality

After months cooped up indoors it’s finally time to leave. It might take time to adjust and feel quite unfamiliar at first but it’s likely to be a very much needed change.

Be sure to stick to your national covid guidelines and socialise safely.

Enjoy the new-normal!
